The possibility to use light to transmit data is one of the main assets of the forthcoming 6G standard. Visible Light Communication (VLC) and Li-Fi aim at exploiting ordinary LED sources to simultaneously provide illumination and high-speed wireless data links.
This one-day hands-on training course provides an insight on the working principle of VLC technology, along with a review of possible application scenarios, ranging from underwater communication, to office and home applications, to intelligent vehicles.
The course will then offer hands-on activities on two technology demonstrators;
1) VLC data transmission in vehicular applications, exploiting a real VLC-enabled traffic light as a transmitter for incoming vehicles with ultra-low latency.
2) Portable VLC receiver for the implementation of extended reality services and/or visitors tracking in museum and/or commercial/retail scenarios.
