Tunable optical components are nowadays present in many optical instruments. Zoom and focusing lenses are the easiest examples. More complex deformable optics are of crucial importance for improving the performances of telescopes, microscopes and lasers.

This course will provide and introduction to all the aspects of adaptive optics technologies: available wavefront modulators (deformable mirrors and deformable lenses), wavefront sensors and control systems.

This course will be a unique opportunity for an experimental training with the most recent technologies. The course will focus also on the techniques used in different applications: microscopy, atmospheric turbulence correction, optical communication and wavefront metrology.

1) Assembly and use of an adaptive optics system for atmospheric turbolence correction
2) Perform wavefront correction in microscopes
3) Example of optical metrology with wavefront sensor
No experience
The course is ideally suited to those planning to develop new photonic products, exploiting deformable optical components. A basic knowledge of geometrical optics is required.
